Installation and Maintenance

Improper storage, handling, finishing, or installation of FRAMEPORT wooden doors can cause serious damage and void the warranty. The following guidelines help maintain the high quality of the doors:
Storage and Handling
- Store the doors horizontally on a level surface, in a dry and well-ventilated area. They must be kept at least 9 cm (3.5 inches) off the ground, with protective coverings underneath the bottom door and on top of the upper one. The covering should shield the doors from dirt, moisture, and damage while allowing air circulation around the stack. Avoid direct sunlight exposure.
- Do not expose interior doors to extreme heat or humidity. Prolonged exposure can cause damage. Buildings with controlled temperature and humidity are ideal for storage.
- Do not install doors in areas where cement or plaster is still wet, unless the doors have already been properly finished. Avoid storing in areas with excessive humidity.
- Doors must be handled with clean hands or clean gloves.
- When moving doors, lift and carry — do not drag them.
Preparation for Finishing
Failure to follow these instructions may void the warranty.
- To ensure consistent moisture absorption and dimensional stability, all surfaces — including rails and stiles — must receive the same finish treatment.
- Before applying the first coat, sand all surfaces horizontally, removing handling marks, raised grain, polish, and other imperfections. Use 200-grit sandpaper, always sanding in the direction of the wood grain, avoiding cross-scratches.
- After sanding, wipe the door with a slightly damp cloth to remove all dust. Avoid abrasive or caustic cleaning products.
- If necessary, adjust components before finishing (wood panels may “float”). Carefully reposition using a hammer and wooden block.
- Hang the door before finishing, then remove it to apply the coating properly. Do not finish during periods of high humidity. The door must be completely dry.
- Some wood species contain substances that may react with certain finishes. Whenever possible, test the finish before full application. Do not use steel wool on raw wood and avoid rusty containers or contaminated tools.
- Softwoods like pine absorb stain unevenly and may show blotches. To ensure a uniform appearance, it is recommended to apply wood conditioner before staining.
Note: The use of sealer may reduce grain contrast. If your goal is to highlight the natural pattern, avoid using conditioner. Always test before application and consult a professional.
