The mission of the FSC® is to promote responsible forest management worldwide, based on the following pillars:

Environmentally appropriate:
Forest harvesting must ensure the preservation of biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes, guaranteeing that the harvesting of timber or non-timber products respects the forest’s natural cycles.

Socially beneficial:
Forest use should generate lasting benefits for local communities and society as a whole, encouraging conservation and long-term forest resource management.

Economically viable:
Forest management must be profitable enough to sustain operations without compromising the forest’s ecological integrity or the rights of local communities. This is made possible through the added value of certified forest products.

FSC® Chain of Custody
Companies certified in the FSC® Chain of Custody provide consumers with the assurance that their products come from FSC-certified forests and/or controlled sources.

These companies must ensure that their raw materials do not originate from:

• Illegally harvested wood;

• Areas with violations of civil or traditional rights;

• Forests threatened by predatory exploitation or degradation;

• Natural forests converted into plantations or non-forest uses;

• Forests with genetically modified trees (GMO).
